Another museum, naturally

I took no photos in MOMA, because it was massive and I didn't like most of it.  I only went for the Lichtenstein, but most of it was on the floor closed for renovation.  I got to see Starry Night and a handful of Monet stuff, which was nice.  Upstairs there was quite a good exhibition of photographs of sculptures.  We weren't permitted to take photos, because I think when you run a modern art museum you have to have an irony limit.

Once we had had enough, we left the Liar to explore his temple of modern art, and the Talk, the Skeptic and myself jumped a train up-town to the Natural History museum.  It was amazing.

Is it still lucky to have the trunk up if its a mammoth?
We were mostly there to see the stuffed animals, just like everyone else.  The museum was packed, but I understand it's never quiet.

I was impressed by the quality of the displays.  The Talk kept rushing around trying to find stuff he recognised from "Night at the Museum."

This one's for my mum.
We couldn't find the main hall, because it was under renovation.  So we found some of the displays in other areas.

The Talk tries to reason with it.
If the displays of animals were good, the prehistoric stuff was amazing.  The lads had to keep rushing me to the next section.

They do move in herds!

I took about thirty photos of tortoises.

We dubbed this a "Froggadile."

Some of the non-dinosaur prehistoric animals were huge.
For me, the strangest section was the hall of birds.  There was one cabinet for each continent, and a sample of birds from each on display, regardless of their different habitats.  Anachronistic flocks.

Birds are weird.
That night we grabbed Mexican for dinner and saw Avenue Q, which was great fun.  While we were waiting outside, I got a drink called a "Hitchcock" which promised to be a "Scotch on the rocks - with a twist!"  It was made by pouring Johnnie Black over ice until it 2/3rds fills a tumbler.  The bartender then waited 30 seconds and filled the glass with Scotch.  We were then told we could order drinks for the interval, including "Fuzzy monsters, hairy monsters and bad ideas."

We got four bad ideas.

During the interval, we identified the gentleman sitting in front of us as Zach Weiner, and he agreed to stand for a photograph with us.

When we left the show the Talk announced we should race to the top of the Empire State building.  As we rounded the corner, we saw the fire department putting out a burning cab on 8th Avenue.  Unfortunately the Empire State building was closed because of bad weather.

You would not believe how entertaining this was.

  1. Please pay more attention at the 'Moderns to Clyfford Still (Abstract expressionist), not many available outside of USA - take pictures, send postcards.
BTW - I don't understand why Zach W did not mention getting his photo with you on his blog.
